What?

So, I'm pregnant, and I've had pretty bad morning sickness, and I'm all by myself, so I don't get much done outside of caring for Cecily, laundry, dishes, and occasionally vacuuming. I'm finally feeling a little better, so I managed to make it to the backyard to check out the garden last week. I was expecting it to all be dead, being winter and all.

But, my broccoli is FINALLY growing broccoli!!


And my spinach plants are going crazy! The one on the left is a normal sized spinach leaf that you'd buy from a store, the one on the right is the massive things growing in my garden!

Unfortunately, at this point in my pregnancy, veggies make me sick, so I can't even enjoy the awesomeness. :(

Thanksgiving month!

Some of my relatives are posting on Facebook each day in November something that they're grateful for. I think that's pretty awesome, so I'm bringing it to the blogosphere. :)

Today, I am grateful for fresh veggies. I got my first harvest of a few spinach leaves, some swiss chard, and one green bean. I didn't expect them to taste much different than produce from the store, but, oh my, they were delicious!! I am so excited to harvest more! :)

Dorky

So yes, I know that I am a big dork. But, it's a fact that I've come to accept, even embrace, over the years.

When we bought our house, I got a random idea to start a vegetable garden. Have I ever been successful at growing things? No. I kill everything. But, I got really excited about it. I even went to our church activity about gardening, and there we planted 5 different herbs. Only one of mine grew. But still, I was going to grow vegetables, dang it!

So, my awesome brother went with me to Lowe's to help me load up wood to build raised beds, and a LOT of soil. The same awesome brother helped me build the raised beds. He's a pretty cool guy.

I tried starting seedlings in small cups. They grew!! But, when I transplanted them to the garden, about half of them died. The other half got dug up and pooped on by neighborhood cats. Urgh. So, I replanted (broccoli, swiss chard, spinach and green beans). Very late in the year. I didn't expect much to happen, but I watered diligently and kept watch for tiny seedlings.

Now the awesome garden looks like this (or, it did like a week ago. They're quite a bit bigger now.)


And yesterday, I found a green bean! The first official edible thing I've grown! (Besides basil)
