Dorky

So yes, I know that I am a big dork. But, it's a fact that I've come to accept, even embrace, over the years.

When we bought our house, I got a random idea to start a vegetable garden. Have I ever been successful at growing things? No. I kill everything. But, I got really excited about it. I even went to our church activity about gardening, and there we planted 5 different herbs. Only one of mine grew. But still, I was going to grow vegetables, dang it!

So, my awesome brother went with me to Lowe's to help me load up wood to build raised beds, and a LOT of soil. The same awesome brother helped me build the raised beds. He's a pretty cool guy.

I tried starting seedlings in small cups. They grew!! But, when I transplanted them to the garden, about half of them died. The other half got dug up and pooped on by neighborhood cats. Urgh. So, I replanted (broccoli, swiss chard, spinach and green beans). Very late in the year. I didn't expect much to happen, but I watered diligently and kept watch for tiny seedlings.

Eventually this happened...


Now the awesome garden looks like this (or, it did like a week ago. They're quite a bit bigger now.)


And yesterday, I found a green bean! The first official edible thing I've grown! (Besides basil)

Tragedy.

Disaster struck the Ward household today when Cecily's legs crawled faster than her hands and she face planted on the tile. She screamed for about 20 minutes and only calmed down when I took her in the backyard to touch her favorite tree (my little hippie chick).

There was a sad swollen lip...


And blood... (the first time she's ever really bled. I think it might have been harder on me than it was on her)

And all day she's had a lopsided smile.


And tomorrow, I leave her with my mom for a whole weekend.. The only night I've spent away from her so far was to watch HP7. It's going to be an interesting weekend.

Latest project!

This past week, I've felt the need for a new sewing project. But, I didn't really feel like going to the store and buying a pattern, fabric, notions, etc. So, I broke out my 2 giant bins of fabric (most of which I accumulated through working at fabric stores for 2 years, and my friend moving and giving me her stash that she accumulated from working at a fabric store for 2 years...). So, I decided that I would make Cecily an alphabet! Luckily, I also had some fleece in there (thanks, Kristina!!). This has been my break from reality this week as Cecily is asleep and I've really enjoyed it. And, bonus, it didn't cost me anything!!
