10 months!!

I'm a couple of days early, but Cecily is napping, and I'm tired of cleaning.

Our little girl is 10 months old!

She is kind of a ham sometimes.

She has discovered tongues and is fascinated by them.

She loves to climb stairs, but hasn't figured out how to get down.
One day, she laid on the floor and tried rolling down them. Luckily, we only have 2 steps, and they're carpeted. She decided that wasn't a good way to get down the stairs.

For the most part, she's a really happy kid.

But sometimes, she gets in a really crabby mood, smears food all over her face, and just cries.

She loves to be tickled.

She says "that" and "daddy".
Yup, I get called "daddy" a lot.
I only get "mama" when she gets hurt or she's angry.
It also really sounded like she said "Gideon" a few weeks ago. No joke.

She can sort of stand by herself and has done it a couple of times, but most often she gets scared and just sits down.

She has 3 teeth.
The bottom 2 came in at the same time, but that top one was a loner and has been there for a few weeks. I hope it's partner comes in soon..

She loves fruit. I was eating a peach the other day, and she pointed straight at it and said, "That!" until I put it up to her mouth to take a bite. Then she stole the whole thing!.

She points at EVERYTHING.

She loves trees and can point them out to you if you ask her where one is.

She loves fuzzy things.

She sleeps from 8 pm to 7:30 am. It's awesome.

We love her so much!!

Time

Total emo post. Sorry.

Jonathan has been gone for 3 months now. A couple of days after he left I realized just how much of my time was spent with him. For the first time since I was 17, I have free time. And lots of it. It's been kinda fun. I planted a garden, which was promptly dug up and pooped in by my neighbors' cats. I've taken up crocheting again, and have made an unhealthy amount of crocheted flowers and hats. I bought myself a giant canvas and when I get the nerve I'm going to try my hand at painting again. I've painted giant yellow stripes in my craft room. I've discovered that I actually enjoy cleaning. I can finally start using all of the fabric that I accumulated working at fabric stores for 2 years. I've even gone running a few times, until the jogging stroller got a flat tire. I haven't found the motivation to fix that yet.. I've even had time to watch TV. Weird.

As awesome as it's been to get in touch with old hobbies and try my hand at new ones, the truth of it is, I've been exhausted all day, yet I still stayed up until midnight tonight sewing Cecily some shirts. Not because she needed them, or even because I really wanted to. But because going to bed is so freaking lonely, I hate it, and I dread it every night.

But hey, at least Cily gets some cute clothes out of it...

Remembering 9-11-01

Ten years ago, we were listening to the radio as my mom drove me to school. We heard about the first plane and thought it was a horrible accident, but when the second plane hit, we knew that it was deliberate. She dropped me off at school and in my first period, my teacher had the news on. Our principal came over the announcements telling teachers to resume normal classes and not let us watch, they decided that we were too young to understand. I remember my history teacher bursting into our class furious, saying that THIS was history, and we needed to be able to experience it along with the rest of the country. My teacher let us watch, and a class full of 12 year olds understood. My friends and I were terrified and wondered if this would be the start of WWIII, dreading the thought of our brothers being drafted, and wondering how life would ever be normal again.

Even as a 7th grader, it was inspiring to me to see our country come together with a bond of patriotism that I had never experienced before. People were so open about prayer and how much we needed Heavenly Father's help. They were kind to each other and valued the moments that we have with one another. As a country, we let them know that while our hearts were broken, our spirit was unshaken and we were stronger than ever.

I hope that we can go back to that sense of unity, faith, and patriotism. That people will openly pray for our country and our leaders. That we won't argue and be divided by trivial matters, but that we will pull together as Americans and find the good in life and our commonalities with those around us. I hope that we won't take our families for granted, that we will treasure every moment we have with our husbands and wives, every smile from a child, even a teething baby crying at 3 am. Life is a gift, please make the most of it.
